Introducing Hallway

Slack is where we go to work. Discord is where we go to play. Hallway aims to be the digital third space. A place where communities can gather, network, and share ideas without all the noise.

Our name comes from the Hallway Track. The space at tech and professional conferences away from the talks, sponsors, and vendors where attendees gather to do what draws us all to these events. Hang out with new and old friends, sharing war stories and cooking up new ideas.

Community-Centered Community Software

The best communities are intentionally built, and we think the software that brings communities together should be built the same way. Too many community managers choose collaboration software that is good enough because that's what the market has to offer.

Community managers are forced to make a compromise. Choose Slack and either accept that your interactions are ephemeral or pay $100 / member / year. Choose Discord and force users into an experience that was designed and optimized for gamers. Or just piggyback off of social networks, inviting the toxin that comes with them into the community. We think our community deserves better.

  • No limits There are no limits on the number of users, messages, age of messages, or anything else.
  • Flexible Features Choose whether your community has things like direct messages and AI-assisted moderation. It's your community and the choice is yours.
  • Affordable for All Communities We will offer Hallway as a fully managed community portal (starting around $40 / month) or a package that you can include in your own application (for around $399 per project).

Hallway is a great option for churches, schools, podcasts, open-source projects, and anyone else who wants the freedom to build a community the way they want to!

Built for Communities, By a Community

Artisan Build is building Hallway in public, sharing daily updates and collaborating with members of our own community, which is powered by Hallway. By using the software as we build it, we're able to feel, in real time, what doesn't feel quite right to us as community managers and community members.

“I joke that we're a dog food company, but that really is what we have become. By being daily users of our own products, we feel our users' pain before they do. And that makes everything we build better.”

Ed Grosvenor – Co-Founder at Artisan Build

Many of the members of our community also manage their own communities, and their input and feedback on features and user experience are invaluable. If you want to join the Artisan Build community and help us to shape Hallway, we'd love to have you!
